Ernest Becker: “The idea of death, the fear of it, haunts the human animal like nothing else; it is a mainspring of human activity - designed largely to avoid the fatality of death, to overcome it by denying in some way that it is the final destiny of man.”
Taxidermy examines the relationship between a copy and a source, life and death. It shows the process of our need to beautify death, our inability to accept it. We take the source which is the body and recreate it to something that represents our view of a living being.
The film does not criticize taxidermy as a profession but us as people. our need to preserve life, even a fake one and put death aside.
A common project with Shimi Cohen, created for a 3rd year project in 'Shenkar college of engineering and design'
